Four Reasons for Becoming Impotent
Impotence is the effect of not being able to gain and erection or if you are able to get an erection, not having an erection that is sustained long enough for sexual activity or is not firm enough to perform sexually. Many of the general public believe that someone who is impotent cannot ejaculate which is a fallacy, although erections are difficult to gain and maintain, many impotence sufferers can still ejaculate and father children.
There are four ways of being impotent which will be explained later on but first an explanation on how an erection is gained will help you understand what I am talking about.
How do you gain an erection?
When a male has sexual desires this triggers the brain to release chemicals that send a message through the nervous system, when they reach the genital area another chemical is released causing the muscle cells in the blood vessels of the penis to relax. This increases the blood flow into two chambers in the shaft of the penis called the corpora cavernosa that results in an erection.
The four reasons of becoming impotent
Psychological reasons
There are many reasons why a man may become impotent because of psychological reasons. Some of these reasons are stress, depression, sexual orientation and too much emphasis being put on sexual performance but sometimes there may be more complex and can involve family relationships and the environment a person has been raised.
Physical reasons
There are three different ways to become impotent due to physical reasons, although there are reasons that fit into more than one of the following categories.
There are many ways blood flow can become affected; one of these is the medical disease diabetes as long-term sufferers. Smoking also affects blood flow as nicotine found in cigarettes can cause problems in blood circulation. Lack of exercise can be another way of affecting blood flow, as your cardiovascular system is not as strong.
Hormone interference can also lead to impotence as it can lower testosterone levels which in turn lowers a mans sex drive; this can be caused by long-term alcohol abuse, stress and aging. While testosterone is being looked at as a reason for causing impotence it is believed to be in a very small amount of cases.
Problems with the nervous system are another cause of impotence as they can affect the signals transmitted to the blood vessels in the penis from the brain. Some causes of nervous system problems are multiple sclerosis, damage from surgery, Parkinson’s disease and injuries to the spinal cord.
Physical reasons are the majority of causes for impotence and are the easiest to treat; psychological reasons need a lot more treatment and can take months or years to treat, if they can be treated.
Those who do suffer with impotence need to seek medical advise to find out which of the ways of becoming impotent fits them, this way the medical professionals can find a solution to help reach that ultimate goal of a functioning penis.
